Post-Natal Massage

New mums need just as much nurturing as newborns after the emotionally and physically draining process of labour. In India women traditionally receive massage from a female relative for 40 days immediately after giving birth to ease tension and promote a sense of wellbeing. Provided your labour was natural and complication-free, it is safe to receive massage as soon as you get home – if you feel like it. If the baby was born by caesarian section, a resting period of 6 weeks after the surgery is recommended to allow the incision to seal before embarking on massage.  After this time massaging the area with rosehip oil will enhance the healing process and help breakdown scar tissue.
